10 Ways To Keep a Happy and Long Marriage

Statistics show that more than 50 percent of the marriages end in divorce. There is one divorce every 36 seconds in United States. Those numbers are pretty high! If you’ve hit the rocks with your partner and things don’t seem to work for you, then giving up is not the solution. What you need to do is take matters into your hands and make it work!  Here are some suggestions on things you should do to save your marriage.

LISTEN SO THAT YOU WILL UNDERSTAND

Listening is a crucial factor that builds any type of relationship, marriage included. In order to understand what issue is troubling your partner then you must be prepared to listen. Having good communication will lead you towards the solution of your problem. You can’t guess what’s in your partner’s head, so ASK and more importantly, LISTEN.

SHARE YOUR FEELINGS

Are you experiencing negative feelings because of your partner’s certain behavior? If you are, speak up! Don’t let your partner guess what’s wrong with you; he/she is not psychic. Instead, share what you are feeling.

CHANGE YOUR RELATIONSHIP, NOT YOUR PARTNER

The very first reason why you married your partner is because you fell in love with who they are. So what use would it be if you were obsessively trying to change his/hers personality? You need to understand that the root of your problem is in your relationship that you both built and not in the person individually.

LEARN TO ACCEPT THE BLAME

We, as humans, are programmed to put the blame on the other person. Well, when it comes to marriage, this can be a real deal-breaker. If you are experiencing some troubles in your marriage, it is not your partner’s fault entirely. Blaming your partner for everything will lead you to counterproductive results and your partner will feel disconnected from you.

SAY “I’M SORRY”

There’s this beautiful quote that says “Let the wife make the husband glad to come home, and let him make her sorry to see him leave”. If this isn’t your case, then recognizing your faults and saying that you’re truly sorry is really important. Your partner will appreciate your apology, and this will lead to better relationship.

FORGIVENESS IS A VIRTUE

Leave the past where it belongs- in the past. Whatever wrong your partner did you in the past, let it go. You mustn’t hold grudges, because it will lead you in despair. Instead, have the talk with your partner and after you hear him/her out, forgive and forget.

BE POSITIVE

“A negative mind will never lead to a positive life”. You need to concentrate on the good. Come on, no matter how bad the situation is, there must be some good in it. Choose to stick to the good. If you want to save your marriage let the negativity go and add a touch of positivity!

COMPROMISE,COMPROMISE,COMPROMISE

Nothing in life comes as you wish for and under your terms. Apply this rule to your marriage and be willing to compromise when necessary. You can’t have everything your way. A mutual compromising will eventually result to finding a common ground that will work for both you and your partner.

BE COMMITTED

You can’t actually call it a marriage if only one person is doing the entire ‘job’. Be committed to making your partner happy, as he/she should be. Work on your problems together, and enjoy your happy moments together. Be committed to staying TOGETHER.

MARRIAGE COUNSELING

If you can’t seem to start a conversation without ending in yelling and tears, then why not try marriage counseling. A good marriage counselor will guide you through your problems, and lead you towards solution. There’s no harm in giving it a try!
