A well-known art dealer based in New York, Lio Malca, turned the old mansion that used to belong to the infamous Colombian drug dealer Pablo Escobar into a luxury hotel full of art.
Located on the beach in Tulum, Mexico, Casa Malca has been refurbished and made into a 35-room luxury hotel that is now owned by the New York-based company “Lio Malca” which deals with art trade.
After Pablo Escobar left the mansion, the property has been totally neglected. Even thought Escobar died in 1993, the confiscation of the property by the Mexican police took place just eight years ago. Since 2012 the mansion has been gradually renovated and is now a luxurious 5 star hotel.
This luxurious hotel now features a 180 meters private beach. The spiral stairs lead to the rooftop deck and there is a bar where all kinds of events can be organized. Glass doors separate the house from the beach. For those guests who don’t want to bathe in the sea, the hotel offers a huge steam pool. The inside of the hotel is accessorized with Persian rugs, furniture and works of art done by famous designers and artists and a range of contemporary artists from Lamca’s personal collection.
The arrangement of the artwork in the hotel is often changed so that visitors can enjoy different works.
Good news is that you can stay at the hotel for a considerable price. You can have a garden view suit for $490 and a beach view suite for $550.
