These Amazing Leg Covers Are Helping Amputees Make A Fashion Statement

Prosthetic limbs are usually made for better functionality, not for appearance. While this makes sense, those people who want to look fashionable would prefer something that says ‘pretty’. So, the Canadian company “Alleles” decided to turn prosthetic limbs into a fashion statement by creating a collection of prosthetic leg covers.

As the founder himself said, they were trying to add a bit more ‘soul’ and solve a stylistic problem and design prosthetic limbs that are both functional and modern.

These awesome leg covers were made to be worn over existing prosthetics. Ryan Palibroda, one of the founders of “Alleles” was unhappy with the prosthetics people wear nowadays because they are mechanical and robotic, and while he admires their functionality, he was not amazed by the looks of them. What “Alleles” is actually doing, is giving people the chance to “dress to kill” by complimenting their style with these designed prosthetic leg covers.

These covers come in different designs, styled with numerous patterns and colors. They were created to match everyone’s personal taste. The cost of the custom-designed covers is about 325 Canadian dollars, but the amputees can also choose to go with an original design that costs about $1500. Fashion and style can really change lives, and “Alleles” totally proved it.

What’s maybe best about these leg covers is the fact that allows amputees to shine, rather than hide themselves. While prosthetics have been thought only as a functional device till now, “Alleles” are trying to remove the stigma, and we can surely say they’ve managed to do it.
