Is One Soccer Player Really Worth $250 Million?

Things are changed in soccer. Better playing conditions, improved defense, faster attackers and what not. But nothing is changed like the enormous price that players have today. Pogba is number one on the list of top 10 most expensive soccer players of all time. His price? A stunning $120 million!

If you’re not a soccer fan, this could make some sense to you. He’s a great player, he can make the difference and sell jerseys as well. But the number 10 on the list of top 10 most expensive soccer players of all time is priced at $86 million.

We’re talking about Zidane Zinedine who’s already retired, and he’s currently coaching Real Madrid. He was in his time the most expensive player, when the Spanish giant both him in 2001.

Things are quickly changing now, and the next most expensive player of all time could be both for a mind-blowing number of $250 Million!

A sum of $250 Million for one single player is simply insane!

The player that we’re talking about is Barcelona’s explosive number eleven; Neymar.

He is indeed one of the best player out there, but can he justify the price tag? Well, yes and no.

The team that wants to buy Neymar is PSG, owned by Oryx Qatar Sports Investments. This means that money is not a problem for the Paris based soccer club. This is not the first time they’re planing to spend millions and millions of dollars for top notch players.

They’re constantly trying to build a team that will be able to challenge for the Champions League. Neymar will be more than welcomed to the pursuit for European glory.

Soccer is a team sport, and one star player is not all what it takes to win games. Which means that the price of $250 million is unrealistic.

If the rumors are true and if PSG are willing to pay Nemary’s release clause, the transfer will make history. On the other hand, it will have a devastating effect on the market.

Neymar is a start player, and one day he will be crowned as the best player in the world. However, as the prices go up the teams that are owned by rich individuals or corporations will have a huge advantage. An average team won’t be able to retain his best players if the big clubs go after them.

This is already a thing, as Monaco already sold two vital players for a sum of $100 million.

“It was the season (last season) where I felt more comfortable, even though we did not win the titles we would have wanted. We played great games and lived incredible moments. Now, we need to work for the 2017-18 season so it will be even more positive individually and as a group,” said Neymar.

There’s not much for Barcelona to do but to hope that Neymar won’t be tempted by the huge salary offered from PSG.
