5 Of Earth’s Most Remote Places

Is the crowded and noisy urban city too much for you already? With the Earth’s human population radically increasing, it may seem you are losing destinations to think of. But don’t worry, there are still places where you can “get away from it all” like these 5 most remote places on Earth.
Getting to these destinations will not be an easy task as they will include long flights, day-long drives, and possibly several boat rides.
Oymyakon, Russia
Being the coolest destination on the planet, Oymyakon is also one of the most remote places inhabited by just around 500 cold souls. A few hundred miles from the Arctic Circle, the temperature could get as low as -90 degrees F. With its hostile climate, planes aren’t able to land. The drive to and from the nearest major city will take around 2 days. If you are wondering how the locals survive here, they use survival hacks such as drinking reindeer or horse milk instead of cow milk; the nutrients found in them is enough to fight the cold elements in this corner of Siberia.
Ittoqqortoormiit, Greenland
No wonder why this place is part of our list, just try to memorize the spelling of its name. Situated on Liverpool Land, a peninsula in Eastern Greenland, Ittoqqortoormiit is one of the most remote places in the country with only 452 locals. The decreasing population spends their time hunting for whales and polar bears, or deciding what color to paint their homes. The small town is dotted with houses colored in red, yellow or blue. The locals’ method of transportation is a helicopter to and from the nearest airport. But during a warmer weather, they usually choose to travel by boat.
Tristan Da Cunha
The volcanic island of Tristan Da Cunha has the honor of being one of the most remote place on Earth with only a total of 297 inhabitants. It is located in the South Atlantic Ocean, 1,200 miles away from Saint Helene and 1,500 miles from the nearest continent of South Africa. There is no airport, either on the island itself or in any islands in the island chain Tristan Da Cunha is part of. If you travel by boat from Africa, it will take you almost 3 weeks to get here.
Kerguelen Islands
Located 2,051 miles from the nearest human population, the Desolation Islands give you a clear idea of how remote it is from the name alone. This windy landscape is a territory of France and has 300 islands including the Grande Terre. The population changes depending on the season. It can decrease from 110 in the summer to 45 during the winter. However, according to NASA, most of the locals are scientists.
The Pitcairn Islands
If you were the British, what would you do to an island of incestuous sexual offenders? Despite having a great history of mutiny and colonialism, and one of the first territories to allow female voters, it is more known for having the highest number of sexual offenders per capita. A group of 3 volcanic islands, The Pitcairn Islands have only 50 inhabitants with most of them descendants from individuals with the shady reputation. In recent years, the population declined to a child sexual abuse controversy in 2004. The British government formerly attempted to offer free land for anyone who is willing to move there, but only one individual applied.
